Ground vapour barriers(commonly known as GVB)
GVB is an effective and low-cost proven system for minimising what can be a significant source of moisture entering the home and structure.
Ground moisture barriers should be installed (regardless of whether existing subfloor vents are present or not) as most homes are still likely to experience a benefit from having the system installed.
High grade polythene is installed by Enstall in accordance with NZS 4246. We lay the product under suitable/applicable homes to ensure the minimisation of rising damp.
Additionally, where installed, if water does enter the underfloor area it must be able to escape through gravity.
Ground Vapour Barrier is black 250 micron polythene. Specific details include taping around piles and lapping.
Where can it be used?
Ground Vapour Barrier should be installed in underfloors where there is;
- an enclosed perimeter foundation
- obvious signs of damp ground
- inadequate ventilation of the underfloor, resulting in a buildup of moisture
- a specific requirement under the Healthy Homes Act for rentals
Specialist installation
GVB is installed following the specific requirements of NZS 4246. We do not recommend DIY install.
